First of all it is important to draw a line between video game consoles and other electronic gaming devices like computers or portable telegames like Nintendos "Game&Watch" handhelds.

There are two main differences between a video game console and a computer. Firstly the main purpose of a video game console is to entertain. It is purely designed for gaming whereas the computer offers the possibility to work with it, to write and store files and to even program it. Gaming is only one option. This first distinction leads us to the second main difference. A video game console is usually controlled by a rather simple device like a paddle, a joystick or a joypad whereas a computer requires a keyboard and often a mouse in order to use all of its abilities.

There are also two main differences between a portable video game console and portable telegames. Firstly a portable video game console uses exchangeable games that are usually stored on cards or cartridges whereas telegames most of the time work with builtin games. The second main difference is the screen. Portable consoles most of the time use an led to display the graphics in either two or more colors whereas telegames often use simple lcd´s.

Currently there are more than four hundred consoles listed on this website but despite this great number the list of consoles is by far not complete and it certainly never will be as there are just too many systems out there that most of us will probably never even hear anything about. I for my part know of at least two hundred other video game consoles that I have just not yet managed to add. They and any other consoles that I hear of or read about will be added as soon as possible. My aim is to one day have the greatest list of video game consoles that you can find anywhere on the web.

Unfortunately at this point of time much of what I intend to present on this site is not yet available. My schedule is as follows:
- First I am going to finish the "History" section
- Then I will continue to add bigger pictures of the consoles in addition to the thumbnails that you will already find in the different subcategories of the "Consoles" section. From there you will get to the pictures by simply clicking on the thumbnails of the consoles listed in green
- Next I am going to add lists to the "Companies" section that show all consoles that were released or at least planned to be released under a certain brand. You will get there by clicking on the logo of the brand in the "Companies" section
- Then I am going to add the information about the VIPs of the video gaming scene - both real people and famous video game characters
- After that I am going to add the information about the consoles
- Last I am going to add the information about all of the different brands/companies in the "Companies" section as far as I have it
It really is difficult for me to say when I am going to be through with all of this. I will try my best to do a little bit of work on my site every week to supply you with constant updates.

But why did I create this website in the first place? It is actually because I could not find one that was anything like it. I am a collector of video game consoles and I was looking for a site that would give me an overview of all video game consoles ever released. I found an awful lot of pages but unfortunately none of them were quite what I was looking for. All of the sites that I found were dedicated to either a certain generation of video game consoles, a specific console or consoles by a particular brand. One thing they all had in common - they were all incomplete. The only thing I could do then was to simply gather the information from all of these sites, to put it together with what I already knew from video game magazines and Ebay and to make a list of my own. When I was through with that I had a pretty impressive list and a very helpful guide for collectors of consoles and I decided that it would be good to share it with other video game freaks from all over the world.
